The classical music channel in spatial sound
Allegro Spatial is the classical music television channel. It broadcasts concerts, operas, ballets and documentaries in 4K Ultra HD and spatial sound.
Launched in June 2015, it belongs to the Eurochannel group, which also runs Eurochannel, the European cinema channel.
Allegro Spatial seats the listener in the hall. Spatial sound no longer splits the music between two speakers: every sound source is placed in space, including in height. The first violins stay to the conductor’s left, the double basses to the right, the brass sounds from the back of the stage, the choir rises above the orchestra, and the real acoustics of the hall, from the Musikverein to the Berlin Philharmonie, surround the listener.
In France, the channel is broadcast in Dolby Atmos on Orange and Bouygues Telecom, for compatible televisions, soundbars and amplifiers. For a stereo set-up, it is also broadcast in spatialised stereo HD: the depth is preserved.
Allegro Spatial broadcasts in native 4K Ultra HD, 3,840 × 2,160 pixels, at 50 frames per second, twice the rate of standard television. The hair of the bow, the fingers on the fingerboard, the glance between the conductor and the leader become visible; the conductor’s gesture is fluid, and fast string passages leave no trail.
There are many classical music channels. With commentary, only one. On Allegro Spatial, every programme comes with subtitles written by a musicologist and synchronised with the score. They appear at the precise moment when something deserves to be understood: they name the sonata form unfolding, recall that an orchestral crescendo was called the Mannheim crescendo in the 18th century, tell of the 1927 commission that gave birth to a Stravinsky ballet. In sung works, every word is translated, phrase by phrase. The subtitles are written in the language of the country of broadcast.
Four worlds: concerts, operas, ballets and documentaries, plus original productions recorded for the channel. The programmes come from the great halls and festivals: Wiener Philharmoniker, Vienna State Opera, Teatro Real in Madrid, Verbier Festival, Glyndebourne, Klavier-Festival Ruhr.
The channel also records its own productions in France: Gluck’s Le Cinesi at the Théâtre de la Reine in Versailles; the opening concert of the Âme en Seine festival at Nanterre cathedral.
Every month brings its premieres, announced in the Highlights and archived on the site. Every programme has its page on allegrospatial.com, with its performers, its works and its broadcast times, shown in the local time of each country. A monthly newsletter announces the Highlights and the premieres. The site exists in nine languages: French, Spanish, English, Portuguese, German, Serbian, Korean, Japanese and Chinese. The channel is followed by 300,000 music lovers on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok.
Allegro Spatial is distributed by cable and satellite operators in Latin America and Europe.
In France, the channel is offered in 4K Ultra HD Dolby Atmos by Orange on channel 168 and by Bouygues Telecom on channel 164. Its arrival in Serbia, on Telekom Srbija, has been announced.

Two things. Spatial sound, which seats the listener in the hall, in Dolby Atmos in France. And the subtitles, which tell the story of the work as it plays: Allegro Spatial is the only classical music channel with commentary.
